Yesterday my best friend, Caity, John, and I, decided we would register for the 5 mile race instead of the 2 mile race at the Hollidaysburg Turkey Trot next weekend. John and I ran the race last year, and despite the cold weather, we both did really well. John received 3rd place in his age group and I received 4th in mine.
One of the reasons why we finally decided on the 5 miler is because we missed the early pricing. Since the price has already gone up, we figured we might as well do the longer course. We know our race will include walking and we are okay with that! The three of us are sticking together for the whole race, which is going to make baby’s first race really fun. (I’ll definitely be bringing the camera).
This morning, though, I started to get a little nervous about the 5 miles. I haven’t run five miles in a long while! I know I just said our race would include walking, but I definitely want to be able to hold my own with John and Caity when we are on our running portions.
Today’s workout gave me the boost of confidence I needed to remind myself that I’m still in pretty darn good shape despite having a little boy growing inside me. Go me!
Here was the breakdown:
At 21 weeks 2 days pregnant, I covered 3.9 miles in 47 minutes. I did this on the treadmill with a 0% incline and I burnt off approximately 400 calories.
My secret goal is that the three of us can cover the 5 miles in an hour. I think it’s completely doable based on what I was able to do today with a lot of walking!
Now, how should I decorate my shirt for baby’s first race…
