My First Trimester (Part I)

Finding Out

During my trip to Minnesota to see my step-sister Alyssa get married, I guessed that my period was coming because my chest hurt SO bad. Well, during a phone call home to John, I had him check the period/ovulation tracker we kept. He told me that I shouldn’t be expecting my period for another week until I was home. I thought it was weird that my chest hurt THAT badly, but ended up not thinking much of it because otherwise I felt completely normal + was occupied with wedding activities.

When I arrived home I was 3 pounds lighter and thought I had caught a “bug.” During that week nothing I ate felt night, I had no appetite, and I lost 2 more pounds.

That weekend we visited John’s hometown for a going-away party for his sister, and then I met up with her for a spa day the Monday after that weekend.

That Monday marked my period being 3 days lates. It wasn’t really anything we were stressing about though, because 3 days late was still in the normal range for what my periods usually did. Well, after arriving home from getting all gussied-up with Sara, John and I ran to the drug store to pick up my prescription. For some odd reason I was compelled to pick up a pregnancy test and off we went back home, where I enjoyed a 3-hour nap.

While driving home from the drug store, we decided that I wouldn’t take the test until I was a week late (I had been up to 10 days late before with no pregnancy), so we were really trying to wait to find out. Well, once again, for some odd reason, when I woke up from that 3-hour nap, I told John I was taking one the tests (we bought a two pack). He said okay and off I went into the bathroom.

I’m not sure why waiting three minutes for the results to show up is part of the instructions, because that second blue line showed up as soon as I started peeing! I could hardly believe it!

I brought the test into the living room to John (with pee drips and all) and just kind of looked at him with an expression that depicted so many emotions. John was initially a bit shocked that it actually said “pregnant,” but after about 2 days, he was talking about baby as much as I was. :)

When we showed my mom these pictures during the weekend of telling our parents, she immediately remarked that she could tell I hadn’t been feeling well. Mommies can always tell!

Stayed tuned for part II of recapping my first trimester!!
