Back in the Game

Truth be told, I took 4 days off of running / working out prior to my ten miler on Sunday.

Brain one was telling me I needed to rest my left groin / hip flexor area and that there must be a reason why I was sleeping so much. Brain two was telling me I was lazy. Well, brain one was right because after my ten mile run on Sunday I got a nasty cold. Please tell me I’m not the only one with two brains? ;)

Anyway, this lead to me being exhausted. So I rested. This morning, Thursday, I knew it was time to get a run in. I’m almost 100% better and my energy is almost back to normal. I decided to make it a hill routine since I missed my hill workout last week.

Today’s Hill Routine

  • 1 min – walk / get belt going
  • 5 min – 0.5 % incline – warm up
  • 5 min – 1.0 % incline – warm up
  • 3 min – 3.0 % incline – run
  • 2 min – 3.0 % incline – jog
  • 3 min – 4.0 % incline – run
  • 2 min – 4.0 % incline – jog
  • 3 min – 5.0 % incline – run
  • 2 min – 5.0 % incline – jog
  • 3 min – 5.5 % incline – run
  • 2 min – 5.5 % incline – jog
  • 3 min – 4.5 % incline – run
  • 2 min – 4.5 % incline – jog
  • 3 min – 3.5 % incline – run
  • 2 min – 4.0 % incline – walk
  • 3 min – 6.0 % incline – walk
  • Cool down – I walked home

Total: 4 hilly miles in 44 minutes

I’m pretty pleased with how this workout went since I was sick and missed a few runs. Dear body, I love you. Love, Katie.

    That’s a super cute top. I always look at the VS Sport stuff as suspect so it’s nice to see someone actually wearing one.

    If I’m sick, I usually cut down the cardio to 30 min. But if I’ve been sick for a while, I stop cutting back because no training would ever get accomplished. -_-

    You shirt is adorable! I love that style and it looks super comfy.

    When I’m sick (with a cold), I usually skip workouts too or I do something easy, like low intensity elliptical workouts. If I’m super ill though, I definitely sleep it off. Props to you for listening to your body – it’s always right :)

    I LOVE VS’s workout gear, that top is super-cute! I wish I saw it during the semi-annual sale! Maybe they have some left on the website, hmm. dangerous ;-)

    PS> NICE workout after being sick! I always have such a hard time running right after I’ve had a cold, the breathing is always the issue. Nicely done.

    I really like that top. Sweat and everything! I always stick to my training whenever I get sick because I haven’t had anything worse than a cold since I started running (knock on wood!) Glad you’re feeling better!

    VS’s semiannual sales kinda rock my socks :) Glad you had a great workout! It always feels so good to get in a “burning” workout after you’ve been feeling sick.

    My workout goes bye-bye when I’m sick. If I just have a little case of the sniffles, I just dial it back. Sometimes working out helps, but it’s best to listen to your body.

    I have been sick on and off for the past two months and have had to change my routine. I took some time off and eased up on the intensity of my workouts until I am 100%.
